The short answer is YES. If you are doing Relief work either on your own or through an Agency, it would be unwise to believe that someone else has you covered.
Scenario 1
You are a FT Employee within your own store and you decide to help out another Store. You assume that the other store that you are helping out has adequate Malpractice Insurance coverage for Relief/Locum workers. In some (not all) cases when Owners/Managers buy Insurance for their stores it only covers the Permanent Employees of that store. Meaning that when you do work for someone else - chances are, you are not covered. Your own store is certainly not covering you because you are doing work at another location, perhaps even for a competing chain. And, most likely, that other chain has not bought Insurance to cover Locum individuals because doing so, would mean hefty increases in their premiums.
Scenario 2
You have decided to do some Relief/Locum work through an Agency, perhaps RPI Consulting Group Inc. Again, you assume that you must be covered. The short answer here is NO. You are not covered by RPI Consulting Group Inc. The only scenario where you will be covered is when you are a Full-Time Employee of RPI. When Relief Pharmacists decide to bill for their services and when they set themselves up as a Business, then it is really up to the Proprietor of His/Her Business to ensure Adequate Malpractice Coverage for His/Her own Business
